The Rose Nwatu Cancer Foundation Welcomes Dr. Ado Muhammad to Board of Directors
Acclaimed global health leader and pharmaceutical medicine expert joins Foundation to strengthen its mission in cancer prevention and early detection.

June 30, 2025 — The Rose Nwatu Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ado Muhammad to its Board of Directors. A highly respected physician and pharmaceutical medicine leader, Dr. Muhammad brings more than three decades of experience spanning orthopaedic surgery, cannabinoid drug development, public health, and global regulatory strategy.

Dr. Muhammad’s career began in Nigeria as a practicing orthopaedic surgeon before transitioning into pharmaceutical research in the United Kingdom. He has held senior leadership positions at major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies including GW Pharmaceuticals, AstraZeneca, Ipsen, UCB, and IO Biotech. At GW Pharmaceuticals, he played a pivotal role in the development and launch of Sativex, the first cannabinoid-based medicine approved for market.

He holds fellowships from both the UK’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine—the highest professional recognition in that specialty—and the Royal College of Physicians of London. He has led global clinical development programs across oncology, neurology, and rare diseases, while supporting public health departments and regulatory authorities through research, training, and policy development under his consulting firm, Pharmedas, which operates in Nigeria, the UK, and the United States.

Dr. Muhammad also holds a postgraduate degree in global public health from Queen Mary University of London and is a fellow of the UK’s Faculty of Public Health. His career reflects a consistent focus on drug development for neglected and rare diseases, social determinants of health, and equitable access to healthcare innovations.

His appointment represents a strategic advancement for The Rose Nwatu Cancer Foundation as it expands its community-based screening and prevention programs, beginning with a pilot initiative in Texas County. Dr. Muhammad’s expertise will be instrumental in guiding the Foundation’s work at the intersection of medicine, technology, and public health.
