The Birth of a Historic
Foundation
Mrs. Roseline Ndidiamaka Nwatu
Founder-in-Memoriam
The Rose Nwatu Cancer Foundation was born out of the selfless nature of a woman who was at the time battling stage 3 triple-positive invasive breast cancer. In the midst of pain and fear of her death, all she could think of was how she could help the lives of other cancer patients.
This foundation is her dream.
While battling cancer herself, Mrs. Rose Nwatu would go out of her way to assist other cancer patients in as many ways as she could. One time, she found the woman by the side of the hospital crying. She asked the woman what had happened to her, and the woman responded, "Where do I get money to pay for my treatment? I'm going to die." Mrs. Rose Nwatu paid for the first course of chemotherapy treatment for that woman. Rose wanted to give her a chance at life.
On several occasions, Rose supported cancer patients financially during the course of their treatments. She also made several donations to churches and orphanages. During the course of her lifetime, she had transformed the lives of hundreds of people through her acts of generosity, kindness, and hospitality.
The most surprising and intriguing part of all of this was the fact that Rose wasn't a woman of great financial means. She was just a middle class, working business woman. She was like many of us and yet so different. While many of us recognize our constraints, finances, time, resources, etc. Rose never let the reality of her constraints derrail her from the possibility of her goals. Her passion to alleviate the pain of others drove her. That passion, her passion, is our driving force today. While this organization recognizes the constraints of reality, like our founding mother, we will work to overcome those constraints and help alleviate the pain of as many people as we can.
Mrs. Rose Nwatu's cancer progressed, and her treatment got more expensive. She was on a search for cancer foundations in Nigeria to help support her treatment, but she could hardly find any that were willing or able to help support the full course of treatment. In that regard, her standards of treatment were lowered to the level that she could afford. And these financial limitations impacted her health.
Due to the difficulty that Rose faced in finding a cancer foundation, she determined that she would establish a cancer foundation that would have the resources and grounds to help millions of people suffering from cancer. One morning in the clinic, she called her youngest child and said to her, "As soon as I am done with this cancer, I will open a cancer foundation in my name." Ifesinachi Nwatu is Mrs. Rose Nwatu's youngest child and daughter. Ifesinachi was her primary caregiver and walked this journey with her mother from beginning to end. But the end of Mrs. Rose Nwatu’s journey was the beginning of a new journey for Ifesinachi; in the midst of the pain and grief of her mother’s loss, the Rose Nwatu Cancer Foundation emerged.
Currently, Ifesinachi Nwatu is the Founder of the Rose Nwatu Cancer Foundation. She fulfilled her word to her mother to establish a foundation in her name. Through the help of the prestigious Board of Directors of the Rose Nwatu Cancer Foundation, Ifesinachi Nwatu plans to make a global impact in the lives of cancer patients around the world.
Although Rose is not here to see the launch of this foundation, her legacy of kindness and selflessness will be the core that drives us. People are getting lost in the business of medicine, and some of these people are losing their lives. Like Rose did, years ago, this foundation will find those who are financially or emotionally lost and help them find a path forward so they don’t have to make this journey alone. The aim of this foundation is to aid cancer patients around the world, giving them their best chance, and to spread awareness, just like Rose envisioned.
This is the start of a foundation of promise and possibility thanks to our founder-in-memoriam and hero, Mrs. Roseline Ndidiamaka Nwatu.
